It is currently thought that people are spending more time working and decreasing time spent on their family. In this essay, I will interpret the causes and effects of this trend on individuals and society.
The primary reason is the hectic life of adults. People are snowed under with work because of spending most of their time in the workplace. They have to work overtime and even work at weekends. Therefore, they fail to have quality time for their children, for instance, they cannot have meals altogether or go on family trips. On the other hand, because of the generation gap which isolates children in the private cyber world, children are likely to squander their valuable family time on screentime activities such as playing computer-based games and surfing social networking sites such as Facebook or Tiktok.
Confronting this situation, the family bonds would be weakened. Parents hardly monitor their kids, which leads to the likelihood of children suffering from behavioural disorders. In particular, children are easy to be exposed to toxic social relationships and influenced negatively, consequently, they would become rebellious. In addition, taking up bad habits like smoking, drinking and gambling and engaging in social evil are also consequences of weakening family bonds. On the other hand, the lack of time spent with family can lead to stress for people when they try to make time for their spouses or their children as well as the tense family climate from the usual conflict among family members. As a consequence, the potential conflicts can break down family relationships in the long run. Therefore, it would cause the separation of the parents.
To sum up, at present, people tend to spend less time with their family. This situation is caused by the frenetic life as well as the gap of generation, so it leads to negative influences on family relationships and the development of children.
