Sometimes I am not satisfied with my life, and I often compare myself to people whom I think are more fortunate than me. However; a year ago, I came across a story that somehow changed my point of view about life. It was an extremely hot afternoon, and I was on my daily bus from my school to home. I chose a familiar spot which was next to the window, because I often do not care what is going on around me. However; when the car stopped to pick up more passengers, I could not drown in my own world anymore. Among new arrivals was a grandmother who carrying a small child. It would be just an ordinary sight for me if I did not see that four or five – year – old child did not have both of her arms. She used her legs to move her body to sit on the bus seat without her grandma’s help. After finding the seat, she again used only her legs to hold a lollipop and enjoy it, and it made me feel so admirable. Sitting next to her, her grandmother just quietly stroked her hair and cooling her with a paper fan. vforum.vn Since I always complain about things around me without knowing that I am a lot luckier than many people out there, the image of the child on the bus really made me feel ashamed about myself. She was unfortunate to have such disadvantages on her body, but she was so cheerful to be alive. Her smile and effort will always be a memorable milestone to motivate me when I have difficulties in life.

I am lonely. I am always by myself. I meet people every day. I smile at them. I say hello. I am nice to them. I want to have a friend. But I have no friends. What is wrong with me? I am polite. I am friendly. I am nice. I am kind. Why don't people like me? All I want is one friend. Everyone has one friend. I always see people with their friends. They laugh with each other. They have fun with each other. They do things with each other. What about me? I am by myself. I watch TV by myself. I go to movies by myself. I go to restaurants by myself. I go to the park by myself. I told my mother that I am lonely. She said it is my fault. "Why?" I asked. She said, "Because you never ask anyone to be with you." My mom is right. I never ask people to be with me. I am afraid they will say no.

I live an ordinary life, and I have never been through something that as dramatic as what I had witnessed last summer. During my vacation in my grandparent’s hometown, I had wandered around almost all of the roads of that small town. There were some dark alleys that my grandparents told me not to come nearby, and I followed that rule very well until that day. I wanted to make a shorter journey to come home, so I decided to go across one of the small alleys. When I silently walk along the wet road, I suddenly heard someone screaming, and that noise seemed to be very near me. I stopped immediately with my heart pounding in my chest to listen to what happened around. After about a minute, I saw a man running towards me, and the most terrifying thing was that he was holding a knife. I could not think of anything, and that was my extinct that dragged me into a tiny space between two buildings to hide. It was a little bit dark, and he was in such a hurry that he did not notice me. I was stoned for a couple of minutes before realizing that he might hurt somebody with that knife. I rushed back to where I thought to be the crime scene, and there laid a young woman. I called loudly for help, and people started to gather. The woman was fine; she just fainted for being pushed to the ground in a shocking situation. That man was a robber, and she was so lucky that she did not hurt. I called my grandparents to pick me up, and I was too terrifying that I did not leave the house for two days. That day was a not so nice lesson for me to be more careful, and I will forever stay away from dark alleys.
