Population explosion refers to the number of people that live in an area. It is a major issue for developing countries. I think it is necessary to have a birth control policy in my country. You see, the biggest problem facing the world today is overpopulation and that population explosion is also a considerable problem in Vietnam. We have more than ninety million people. Overpopulation results from the fact that Vietnam's birth rates are rising while death rates are falling as medical advances have made it possible for people to live longer than before. People still hold the traditional idea that the more children one has, the happier they will be in the future. Overpopulation is the root of unemployment, increasing rubbish, lacking resources, and reduced green land. A lot of Vietnam's problems stem from overpopulation. It can cause a series of social problems, such as unemployment, social and so on. If the population goes on increasing at the present rate, our energy resources will be used up sooner or later and there will eventually not be enough resources left to sustain life on the planet. Today, in Vietnam, the rapidly rising population has put strain on natural resources in general, and forest resources in particular, as a result of increased demand for resources. The following factors contribute to the degradation of forest resources as a result of population growth: Expansion of agricultural land acreage: to satisfy the demand for food production, the primary cause of which is shifting cultivation. Due to poor forest management and conservation, the area of natural forests is currently shrinking. Natural disasters are becoming more powerful and frequent as a result of this. According to the General Department of Forestry (2018) (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam), the natural forest area has increased by more than 50% in just over 5 years (from 2012 to 2017), the natural forest area has been lost by 11 percent owing to illicit deforestation, with the remaining 89 percent due to conversion of forest use purposes in sanctioned projects. So, Vietnamese governments have been taking active measures to bring the birth rate under control.  Some people don't realize that by having more children they make it more difficult for themselves and the government in the long run. Experts have long been concerned about the population on earth, which could have reached 11 billion by the year 2075. As China has practiced this policy for three decades, the birth control policy has achieved success in China, and the hope is to reach zero population growth with the total number of births equaling the total number of deaths by the year 2010.

But in my country - Vietnam, at the beginning, it was quite tough to implement the birth control policy. Some people tried every means to have children. But the government has done a lot of persuasion work. The policy "one couple, one child or two children” may not be ideal when it comes to educating the only child in the family because the only child can easily get spoiled. But there is no other better way. But you just can't imagine what would happen if Vietnam didn't practise birth control. Ever since they implemented this policy, they have seen a great reduction in the birth rate. In this sense, my country has made great contributions to world population control. But hopefully, with the "one couple, one child or two children” recommendation, the situation has been improved. Besides, the situation in the urban areas is much better than in the rural areas. The city dwellers are comparatively better educated. They are fully aware of the severity of the population problem in the world. They are happy with one child, either a boy or a girl. I have heard that it was a problem in the countryside, where people used to think only boys could carry on family trees and be the main labor force. So, if their first-born was a girl, they would keep trying for a son. But by educating these people and many endeavors of the government, we can see that the work of family planning is going much better in the countryside nowadays.

In modern society in Vietnam, people now attach more importance to the quality of the children than to the quantity. They make great efforts to bring up their children well physically and psychologically. Today, more men and women are waiting longer to get married and are using birth control devices and methods to prevent or delay pregnancy. Well, of course, some people delay having children, because they are making great efforts to achieve self-fulfillment first and enjoy their life without any constraints if they have children.

To sum it up, the population explosion has caused huge pressure on the surface of the earth. Also, we can control many issues of the earth by controlling population growth. Besides, many problems like food insecurity, illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment can be minimized by controlling the population.

From my perspective, overpopulation is one of the most noticeable problems that should be dealt with by governments and residents. Soil doesn’t bear but humans do. Therefore, if we don’t have the appropriate measures to solve this issue, there is a reality that people do not have enough places to survive. At this moment, thanks to the modernization of the world, the birth rate decreases considerably. However, the number of dwellers migrating to the municipalities or metropolia is rising significantly. This has made a negative impact on citizens that lead to environmental damage, widespread famine, conflicts and wars, higher unemployment rates, and other inadequate healthcare. In conclusion, people have to have population control methods and environmental preservation to save our generation.

At the time of the April 1, 1999 Census, the population of Vietnam stood at just over 76 million, making it the 13th largest country in the world. From 1979 to 1999, nearly 24 million people were added to the country’s population. But, despite the addition of over 1 million people per year, the rate of growth of Vietnam’s population has been slowing dramatically. By the end of the 1990s, the growth rate declined to its lowest point since reunification of the north and south in 1975: 1.4 percent per year in 2000.

From 1979 to 1989, the country’s population increased by 22.7 percent, but from 1989 to 1999 the increase declined to 18.5 percent. This reduction can be traced to the rapidly growing desire of many couples to limit their family size to two children.

During the 1990s, Vietnam experienced a sharp decline in its population growth rate: from nearly 2 percent at that beginning of the decade to 1.4 percent by 2000. The significance of this change can be appreciated when we think of population growth rate in terms of its “doubling time.” A growth rate of 2 percent, if maintained, would double a population in 35 years, but a rate of 1.4 percent would require 50 years. Given the steady decline in the country’s birth rate, a continued decrease in the rate of population growth in the coming years is highly likely.

In 1979, Vietnam’s age and sex distribution exhibited the classic broad base of a country with a history of high fertility. The three widest bars at the base of the pyramid, representing the youngest age groups of 0-14 years, accounted for 43 percent of the population, a very young age distribution. About 20 years later, that proportion had dropped to 32 percent, still a comparatively young population. A very striking feature of Vietnam’s age structure in 2000 is the fact that the two “youngest” bars are smaller than the ones just above. As a result, the age structure itself virtually assures slower future population growth as these younger people move up the pyramid, reducing the number of potential parents.
