So, when it comes to this topic, which is about a person with some useful contribution to the community, the first one that immediately pops up in my mind at the present is my best friend. We have known each other since I was in grade 1, so that means we have a fourteen-year relationship, it is pretty long, isn’t it? I guess that I can be very surprised about us.
So back to the topic. The reason why I mention him is that he has volunteered to help people during the period of pandemics. As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the last 4 months, many people are struggling with their lives, some companies are on the verge of bankruptcy, and more importantly, thousands of lives are taken away. It is such a terrible situation that I have not ever imagined before. But fortunately, Vietnam actually had a group of devoted people including doctors, nurses, and even students with a view to putting efforts to ease this situation. And I am pretty proud that my friend is one of them. I am pretty sure that the ones who received help from my friend are really lucky.
If you followed some of the news when the pandemic happened, you could see that being a volunteer was not that easy. He and many people in the volunteer team did not mind wearing a full protective suit even on the dog days of summer or staying up all night to make sure all infected patients have no complications happen during the night. I was a little bit worried for him and I had to call him sometimes to make sure everything was fine. But the call only lasted about 5 minutes, and then he had to get back to work. Luckily, the pandemic has taken a turn for the better, so he can go back home now as the government and hospitals are no longer understaffed.
To be honest, I would say that I really admire my friend due to all his work. I think he would be the role model that inspired me to become a person that can contribute to my society.
