Children are becoming overweight and unhealthy in many countries. There are those who opine that the responsibility should belong to the government. In my opinion, I somewhat agree with this idea for some reasons.
There are understandable reasons why the government should take responsibility for the problem of being overweight and unhealthy among children. The first reason is that adulteration in food is increasing adulteration nowadays. For example, food having lead and mercury will attack our metabolism and kill gut bacteria, hence increasing weight. Therefore, the government has to frequently test food before distribution to the market. Another reason is that the number of advertisements about fast food is increasing and children are easily attracted to them. Therefore, the government is able to impose laws to limit this kind of advertisement, thereby reducing fast food consumption among children.
On the other hand, I believe that the responsibility is not necessary to have by the government, schools and families also play a vital role in solving this problem. Firstly, home and school can strictly control the timings of the TV or the video game which is the main reason for a lot of disease for children’s screen time and encourage them to take part in more outdoor activities. For instance, parents set some rules on the usage of the on-screen games, and allocate more time in outdoor games as compared to indoor activities. Secondly, it is easier for parents and schools to control children's diet. As a result, the food consumption of children can be strictly supervised and followed in order to ensure children's health.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that both sides of the argument have their positive points. However, I am inclined to believe that the government should have the responsibility because the state has the power to inspect food before distribution to the market and can control a lot of factors of the health in developing countries.
