he North of Vietnam has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. Among all, my favorite season is summer, as I find it the most exciting and fascinating.
A typical Vietnamese summer would last around 3 or 4 months between May and August. During those summery months, the temperature can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, which is boiling hot for many people. Going under the sun is not comfortable at all, and people have to wear thin cotton clothes and sunscreen to prevent sunburn. The weather would be increasingly hot for a few days before a downpour comes. The days are longer and the nights are shorter. In the summer, many people prefer staying in air-conditioned rooms rather than going out. There are photos taken about how the roads and streets in the center of Hanoi are deserted during excessive heat.
The reason I have chosen summer as my favorite season is because of the summer holiday. Vietnamese students have a full three-month vacation off from school to carry out a variety of activities. When there is a prolonged period of very hot, dry weather, which may continue for weeks, I love to go to the coast with my family to enjoy the cool breeze coming from the sea. If not going on a trip, my sister and I can go to indoor swimming pools to cool off. Sometimes my friends ask me to go on a picnic to watch the clear starry sky at night, which is stunning. We enjoy ice cream, cold drinks and many seasonal fruits like watermelon, pomegranate, orange,… Besides, I enjoy doing outdoor activities. There are few chances for me to fully join a project until school time ends. I am able to take part in projects which I simply don’t find time for at other times, or apply for a part-time job to receive experiences. I would also enter some English or computing classes to broaden my knowledge and understanding.
As the long holiday is really necessary for me to refresh myself and get ready for a new semester, summer is the perfect season for me.
