Whether living in the countryside would lead to better health than living in the city or not remains a controversial phenomenon. Although the health benefits of countryside life are quite considerable, they are still overshadowed by the advantages that city life can offer the residents. This essay will explain why people can have a better life when residing in a metropolitan area.
Obviously, there are some advantages to living in a rural area. The most significant one is that the qualities of the food we consume and the amount of exercise are manageable. By controlling pesticides used on plants and the food fed to the cattle, people believe they can ensure the quality of the food they consume every day and avoid some diseases. Besides, they can also have more opportunities to do labour work, which can help them avoid the urban sedentary lifestyle. Admittedly, this quality can minimise the possibility of illnesses, but in fact, not every disease stems from lifestyle. Some could be originally from their parents’ genes, which could lead to some undetermined sickness that needs modern treatments and therapies. It means no one can guarantee residing outside the city could bring a healthy life.
On the other hand, life in the cities could offer more health-related services due to the availability of modern facilities, especially in the healthcare field. For example, modern equipment and methods are always accessible for people in the metropolitan area to have regular check-ups. By those factors, people could identify their diseases as soon as possible to cure them, which can increase their chance of survival. Some people would argue that the cities cannot ensure the quality of food consumed as well as the rural area. However, there are a lot of reliable suppliers having a food safety assurance, which can provide consumers with fresh and safe food stocked every day. As a result, not only can city life brings easier accessibility to the advanced healthcare system, but it can also give the residents good food quality assurance.
In summary, there is no doubt that our health can be improved when living outside the cities but it still faces some challenging problems. In my view, the cities could help people enhance their living lifestyle better than the countryside.
