It is argued that college students should live in halls of residence in lieu of living at home. Although living in a dorm benefits young people in a variety of ways, I strongly believe that living with their family has a positive impact on students.
On the one hand, the trend of living in dormitories or staying close to schools will help students develop independence. For example, they have to learn to take care of themselves, cook, and work part-time to cover living expenses. Practicing independence is an extremely essential step for students to have enough confidence for future challenges. Living at the school will create conditions for students to live together and interact with friends. They will practice communication skills and how to live with new acquaintances. Furthermore, students who live at resident halls could pay less for transportation. For kids who reside in rural areas, the trip to school takes time and money. These pupils must travel an hour or even two hours to get to school, and over time, the cost of the tickets or the petrol may build up to a sizable sum of money. Living near a school is therefore recommended as a cost-effective option.
Living at home, on the other hand, has several advantages for both students and their families. For starters, if they choose to live at home, young people can share the burden with their parents. They can take charge of cooking meals, cleaning the house, and doing the dishes after class. Adolescents shouldering household chores would allow their parents more leisure time. Secondly, family members could provide a great source of support for young people. During their college years, students may face difficult situations, and family ties will be the best source of support and encouragement. Parents can not only provide emotional support to their children, but they can also share their practical experience with them. This would comfort young people and make problem-solving easier for them.
In conclusion, while living in dorm rooms is advantageous to students in terms of developing social skills development and reduction in costs, living at home with parents serves to strengthen a close bond between members of the family and drives students' personal development.
